Coyoacan Vineyards was born from a chance encounter with a hidden gem on the slopes of Howell Mountain—a vineyard in need of care, yet full of potential. What began as a single acre of Cabernet Sauvignon, now known as the Apple Orchard block, has evolved into a multi-generational passion project rooted in dedication, learning, and discovery.
The Enriquez family is originally from Coyoacán, a historic neighborhood in Mexico City whose name means "place of the coyotes." When we first arrived on Howell Mountain, we were greeted by a pack of coyotes—an uncanny reminder of our roots. It was a moment of connection between our past and present, inspiring us to name our new home after our old one.
With backgrounds in microbiology, finance, law, and tourism, we were city folk through and through. But life among the vines has transformed us into farmers, teaching us everything from cover crops and vine pruning to felling trees and splitting firewood—a world away from the hustle and bustle of Mexico City. More than that, we've learned to move with the seasons, to follow nature’s steps, and to embrace the rhythm of life that the vineyard demands.
Guided by the wisdom of Napa Valley experts and a hands-on approach, we expanded our vision in 2019, breaking ground on what is now the Cold Springs block. By 2021, over 4,000 Cabernet Sauvignon vines had taken root, and in 2024, we proudly harvested our first crop—already showing incredible promise in the glass. Our journey continued in 2023 with the planting of Manzanita block, dedicated to Cabernet Franc.
In 2025, we released our inaugural vintage with extremely limited production—met with great enthusiasm and acclaim. Crafted with meticulous care and a deep respect for our land, our wines reflect the purity, intensity, and character that Howell Mountain is known for. The label design, inspired by a vine breaking bud, perfectly captures the essence of nature awakening from hibernation. It symbolizes the promise of growth, the resilience of the vine, and the fruitful rewards of dedication and hard work. This milestone marks just the beginning of our story, as we continue our pursuit of excellence, one vintage at a time.
